Newbie question about LG 54004

Cannons powered by pneumatic pressure (compressed gas) using a valve or other release.

I am just about done with my first gun and before I head off to Home Depot, I wanted to get some ideas about the Lawn Genie 54004. From what I read it can be modded and evidentally has an rod in it. The question I want to ask is can I offset the hole in the top and not mess with the rod? Or do I have to mod the rod as well?

You can put the hole anywhere in the valve top, as long as it provides access to the pilot area, If I am not mistaken.
