Question about QEV???

Ok, I am working on a cannon with a QEV and a backpack co2 tank but the only problem is if I have a constant regulated co2 gonig to the inlet of the QEV and I try to release the inlet with a valve it will keep fillnig up slowly as I'm releasing it and won't dump all the air out to the projectile. How could I solve this without putting a ball valve on the inlet to turn off the co2 each time before I fire?
