Electronic sprinkler valve actuation on large piston valve?

Who here has experience using an electronic sprinkler valve (not modifying it) to use on there large piston? I am planning on making a 2 1/2 inch chamber sealing piston valve and want to add some electronics to the mix and was wondering if this would be a good idea or not. ?

I don't really want to just use a blowgun to pilot a big valve so I want a sprinkler valve, I heard they are alot better.

Nobody uses a blow gun to trigger big valves. They usually use ball valves or sprinkler valves. and yes that would work.

Well i have seen using a modified sprinkler valve with a blowgun, or you can use a QEV with a blowgun to actuate it. But for electronic, im not so sure. But if you gut it and take out the flow rod and any other thing that restricts air flow, and use a solenoid actuate, i think it would work, but i wouldnt take my word for it.

Yeah since the sprinkler valve would be used to pilot not as the main valve, actuating it electronically would pose no real engineering problem, if u mod the valve and leave the solenoid in u can have the best of both worlds.

i dont know much about pnuematics but i think that should work and anytime you get electronics involved it is even better

Well in most cases sprinkler valves actuated electronically degrade performance. but using it in a non primary role such as piloting a piston valve. it is ok to use the solenoid in this application

Yeah I agree with gunner, seems like it would work good. I'm just deciding if I should make it fully pneumatic or add the electronics........
