I just looked at the Quackenbush, it's an awesome gun.
But you would have thought that since there are only so many bison left in the world, they would stop shooting them? Dumbasses.
For the record, I regularly go hunting, but I'm not with the whole 'let's wipe a species off the face of the earth' deal.
hunting...???
The natural habitat of the Bison is basically gone and many of them are raised on a game ranch style environment. With limited space and natural breeding, overpopulation would be a problem. Allowing hunters to shoot the surplus is more practical than shipping in a wolf pack or a couple of Grizzly bears.
It's not like they are being hunted in Yellowstone or Wood Buffalo National park.

I see, I was under the impression they are killing the last few remaining ones.

While many spudguns have the ft/lbs potential to be lethal if striking a vital area, it's impossible to guarantee accuracy at normal hunting ranges and therefore a humane kill, as Ragnarok pointed out, I think the rules on the subject are justified.
Also, the lethal potential of spudguns isn't really something you'd want to advertise - imagine the media sensationalism - if you can kill a deer, then you can kill a person etc. - not the sort of publicity this hobby needs.
