Hello folks! I have wanted a tank for sooo long. then I got a go-cart for Christmas. I would like to turn it into a two person tank. Some of the problems though is that it has a "Dead" Axle which means the motor only powers one wheel. I would like to make this a live axle so that it would get better traction. Another problem is that it has a centrifugal clutch. It pretty much burns out going up hill in dirt and some times on flat land. So I need some advice to get this thing to tackle the hills. The motor is 6.5 Hp I think so it has plenty of power just not enough torque. Any advice?
This cart is pretty small but I think it would hold two people. :D

Photobucket takes a while to upload pictures I will post them soon!

Maybe 2 of the 5 year olds MR. crowly could kill:)
I don't know much about motors and crap. Though me and a 37 year old that lives with his mom  turned an old riding mower into a pretty ghetto piece of shit. He fixed up the engine, and I gave it an electric blue paint job with red stripes. We also put a shag carpet in it

Yeah, it makes quite a good story, but I shit you not, that thing was a beast. I remember it took me 40 minutes to ride it back to my house the day I bought it for 25 bucks. The damn thing was stuck in first gear. I could walk 4 times as fast.

My buddy has the same go-kart i think and he had the same problem with the wheels. He took the dirt bike engine off his dirt bike and is in the process of putting it on his go-kart. Some how he is going to have the dirt bike engine power one or two other wheels.

Use a 125cc clutch from a dirt bike and cut and weld a full axle? Solved.[/quote]

get yourself a torque converter, its like automatic tranny for small 1 or 2 cyl engines. it makes a hell of a lot of difference for hills and such.

For the live axle, its simple. Buy the brackets and bearings, weld em underneath, get a sprocket adapter whack it on the axle fit the torquey and your good to go.

So guess its a honda or briggs&stratton engine. I have one on my homemade kart as well. It goes 70km/h. I have a centrifugal clutch as well and it works fine, my frame weighs about 60-70kgs empty. I also overrevd my engine so it goes to 6000rpm instead of 3600. This is really easy to fix. Close to the carbu there is a spring guided'' pin. If you take away this spring then the engine is not regulated anymore and will go to its max! This could help you out with the clutch as it could have higher grip if the engine has higher revs. Oh yeah lots of ppl talk about putting a different engine on it; its a big fuss ill tell u that. I think it would be easier to just buy a variomatic belt drive system. They sell ehm on US buggy/kart websites. As I dont live in america they are too expensive for me. This vario gives you a better torque curve and thus better acceleration and power'' when u go up hill etc. Well k good luck with ur buggy>tank conversion. if you have a question just send me a mail or something :)

After this is done you should make treads on it to make it a REAL tank :)

and steering...

if you do that you are better off starting from scratch, you need either two engines or a drop down gear axle so it can turn.

Spudkilla, how about having your passenger standing up with a pintle mount of the roof?
