Hey guy's, This is an interesting listen. This is a call in show here is the US called The Art Bell Show on Coast2Coast AM. A guy named Mel Waters called in in 1997 talking about a bottomless hole on his property in Eastern WA. This is audio from that show in 2002. It is a 15 part series on YouTube which lasts over an hour and a half total, but once you get in you'll want to listen to the whole thing.
HERE is the site with the Original Coast2Coast broadcast in 1997 on Feb 21 and Feb 24. A buddy of mine knows someone who knows where this is and we are planning a trip up there this spring.

Hmmm. Interesting, but a bit hard to believe.
My favorite clip from the Coast to Coast show is
Won't be funny to anyone who hasn't played Half-Life, but pretty funny for those who have.

A year or two ago I heard about Mel's Hole, supposedly located on Manastash Ridge in my home state of Washington. I was interested and did a few nights of research but after turning up absolutely nothing I could confirm, I dismissed it as urban legend.
I listened to the old radio interviews where Mel described the hole and his story of lowering 10,000 feet of fishing line (with a weight on the end) down the hole and not finding a bottom, throwing old appliances in and never hearing them hit, etc...
Web research hasn't turned up anything solid, just some interesting here-say:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mel's_Hole
http://www.melshole.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi
And lots more like this...
I used Google Earth to create a pretty good estimation of where it is, using the blocked-out sections on the old maps (see links above) and Mel's description. It's within an area roughly 6 miles by 9 miles. Here's the rough area:
Upper left corner:
Lat: 46°59'46.37"N
Lon: 120°52'7.52"W
Upper right corner:
Lat: 46°59'3.07"N
Lon: 120°44'55.02"W
Lower left corner:
Lat: 46°52'14.39"N
Lon: 120°51'56.63"W
Lower right corner:
Lat: 46°52'15.33"N
Lon: 120°44'51.65"W
Identified possible locations visible from Google Earth:
Lat: 46°57'37.71"N
Lon: 120°46'31.72"W
Lat: 46°58'12.35"N
Lon: 120°45'1.35"W
I, of course, seriously doubt it exists but it would be very cool if it did.
Peace,
Pete Zaria.
