ok so i want to make a dart gun using 10mm pvc and stuff like that ive got plenty of ideas to make it work ill probably get a 1" sprinkler valve and a 40mm chamber . and ill probably make it for use with high pressures and make special low profile spear ammo
ok back to this gun, what i though id do is modify my original sprinkler valve gun that i all ready have by just changin the barrel by using the screw thread on the sprinkler valve and i think the pipe ill be using is 10mm pvc so my ammunition will be low profile and fly through the water with ease ( so im hoping) and theres no way to test this because theres no way in the world am i testing this in my pool --lol-- any way what i was thinking for the ammo is to make it out of coathanger wire with a tiny loop on the end for the fishing line and a plastic cone cut out from a sheet of the plastic they use for wrapping things up in so when it hits the water it just folds up kind of thing. and probably put a hand held fishing line on the end of the barrel. but what happens with the ammo is that i cant exactely attach any thing to the top bit of it so it doesnt just pull back through the what ever im shootin so im hoping it will have enough velocity to go straight through the thing so the cone will stop it from going back when im reeling it in
this is the gun im thinking about moddifying http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/sprinkl ... 12986.html

your ammo will need significant mass to carry it through the water

care to explain.... .. i was thinking using cost hanger wire and a plastic cone on the end and fishing wire on there as well
ill draw up a diagram later on of what i want it to look like

How's this for an explanation
Has that rule been changed to exclude fish?Spudfiles Rules wrote:Discussion of shooting anything at any person and/or animal is prohibited, and may result in a permanent banning of your account.
1. The exception to this rule is for proper use of legal airsoft and/or paintball markers.
BRB is quite right - this is against forum rules.
You're allowed to discuss darts for underwater use, which are quite different to what is needed in the air, but not the actual act of shooting a living creature. What you get up to with your launchers is on your own conscience, we can't stop you, but you can't discuss it here.
It's one of the most important rules of the forums - I've been meaning to put up a explanation for why the rules are justified on the wiki, and I think now might be a good time to start.

Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?
Do not make the stun grenagde with chemicals. If you do, I will eat you, you want a method that wikll stun fish without damaging them, so If you accidentallyu stun a fish you dont want, it will recover.
No point ruiningan ecosystem for a few fish.
As for the fish gun, an interesting fishing idea, you want a reel on the top of your gun, your ammo has to have weight to get through the water and drag the line behind it.
This interests me, I would actuaklly like to add a reel to my guns, and have ammo tha works like this.
Admittedly I wont exactly go fishing or hunting deer, or anything, but It does sound quiet cool.
*Far off, the Spiderman song is heard...*

How about an underwater air explosion.
It will be VERY loud, too loud maybe, just don't try listening to it.
Im not sure if its safe, but heck, neither is pushing wire through fish at high speeds or using your garden pond as a waste chlorine dumping site.
Either you could have a weighted bottle of air (or somehow fixed in place strongly), with a hose to the surface, that you planted beforehand.
Or , if its a deep pond (I use the term loosely here), you could swim under them with a bottle, and at the bottom fill it with Oxygen or CO2 (don't really know the properties) let it go, and as it nears the surface, the gases inside will expand more and more, till finally it explodes, with a heck of a lot of force.
And on that bombshell, don't do it, since you will also be underwater at the time of this underwater explosion, and your eardrums will look like a couple of curtains involved in a knifefight by the end of it.
But you could have a sort of stand on the bottom of the ocean (more appropriate, need about 25-50 meters for this) with a bottle attached, and a CO2 or Oxygen bottle as well, you could put the O2 or CO2 into the bottle through a one way valve, the added buoyancy would force the bottle up to the surface, where near to the surface it would violently explode.
What Im saying is more a fun fact, this is really inefficient, mainly for the cool factor, and rather dangerous, to both yourself and the fishies.
If your gonna do it manually underwater, for gods sake let go of the bottle once its inflated.

exactely what ive done execpt not the motorized reel lol to much
This sounds cool...Ive always wanted to get into spear fishing. Ive tryed using pneumatic guns to shoot fishing rigs right out into the ocean, but its a bit stressful because all the good fishing spots have people there who don't exactly appreciate a big gun going off all the time and always want to come in for a closer look/complain.
I might make a skinny piston gun with a sprinkler valve pilot for accuracy, then use a three pronged fishing spear on some strong fishing line, I wonder if the gun would be too buoyant and throw your accuracy off...let me know how yours goes, specifically how far the spear travels in the water and how buoyant the gun is

aer you saying you want to go underwater??
yep, youll struggle to catch fish from the rocks or a pontoon, unless there are a lot of fish and you have a heap of berley/chum to attract them, also the light refraction would make it really hard to hit anything

not where i go im standing on a pontoon with fish directly below me and someone next to me cleaning out crabs and dropping all the crap outta them in to the water lol
Hmmm...
If your gonna go under water, then you'll want the barrel to be small dia, a huge chamber compared to the barrel, and a seal that tears easily at the front end. The Spear would have to perfectly seal the barrel, use some lube to let it slide.
However, to mre this is fairly clunky, so my idea would be having a hand pump on the side of the barrel, pumping water out through a one way valve, and another valve, to prevent air escaping when you want it to be propelling your spear.
So after each shot you would put in another spear, put the seal on the front, pump out the water in the barrel, fill up the chamber, and you are good to go.
And you dont even have to come to the surface.
Now who's up for some shark hunting?
In this image, Im not too sure about the order of pump, valve, one-way.

The valve would be a fast one, maybe coaxial pneumatic would perform best. In that case you would charge the chamber before pumping out water, and have the pump valve open while filling the chamber.
