Your knowledge of demographics is quite impressive, it shows that you've taken the time to read the news at least once in past year or so. I'm not going to discuss it any further, because I'll derail the thread completely and be bogged down with people calling me a communist.

And just in case anyone forgot, this thread is about a hot glue piston, not the fact that 22% of the world's population is concentrated on the 6.4% of its land area owned by the PRC.

The OP has probably forgotten about this topic, but if he tries to build a barrel sealer with his current level of knowledge, I really strongly doubt that he'll succeed anyway. If he is still reading it, reinforced marine epoxy is a better option than hot glue, that's just as easy to make.

if you made a hot glue piston and put sawdust in the mix as well would it have the same hardening effect as with ice?

I was thinkin of that when I made mine, but only cos I didnt have many glue sticks left, what about reinforcing it with toothpicks or maybe a coat hanger twited into a coil?

I actually think the idea of using some kind or particle(sawdust/sand) as a added bonding agent would be a great advantage.

I will have to give this a try when i make my piston gun.

I don’t recommend you try and stir anything into molten hot glue, you put a ton of air bubbles in it and weaken the structure.

and if some of that compressed air gets into one of those air bubbles (thus inside the whole piston), it could be gradually "split" until its no longer functional. Please, don't try to use hot glue, just go to walmart and buy some 2-part 5 minute epoxy for like 3/4 dollars. its A LOT stronger and resiliant to containing air bubbles.

Hot glue works, you just have to get all the bubbles out.
My bazooka uses a hot glue piston, it’s heavy but works.

yeah, but unless you get most all the air bubbles out, there's no point in using it. you could just put the sticks of hot glue in a metal bowl of some sort and use a torch on the under side to melt it. once melted, continue to heat it untill it gets to a molten stage, because once it gets to a certain temp (as i remember from another post) it prevents bubbles when poured into a mould.

I used a cast iron skillet lined with aluminum foil on a grate over my forge.
Hot glue turns an off-white as you heat it, then slowly goes clear, when it’s clear as water you pour it into the mold, hardly any bubbles at all.
