Hey guys. I'm looking to get myself a fridge compressor. On Ebay, they're are a stack for 20-30 bucks! They say that they just need regassing but im not sure if they means it won't work for what I need it for....

How do these pumps actually work? What do I need to use it as an air pump?

Most definetly!

I already pulled a compressor out of a BIG side by side upright freezer.

I'm looking around for a suitable pressure reservoir, out of date propane tanks look promising, but they are only proofed to ~360psi.

I would like MORE! Maybe built from steel pipe? Hmmm :)

That would be frantastic. I love the pump I built myself but it's only good for my bb gun due to it's small chamber size. It's not exactly practicle to use on this copper marble gun I'm planning to build so I definately think that this compressor pump is the way to go :D

Makes it better that there are 2 fridge's in my backyard that have just shit themselves! Free parts! :D

I totally agree. You have to love free parts. :)

soemthing tells me that those guys thought that you want to buy those compressors becasue your fridge broke down :D the term regassing possibly means filling with freon or other refrigerator gas - obviously you don't need that if you want to use it as a pump

if you have 2 fridges in your backyard why don't you remove those compressors yourself... no need to buy them -> check here for a how-to... http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/my-comp ... 11866.html

ask if you have any problems (but honestly it is so easy to do that you shouldn't have any problems at all)

@ gippetto - making a tank form steel pipe is a good idea - I have some 2.5 meters long 1" pipes so I might build one for really high pressures but I think that propane tanks would be more practical

If you want to charge your cannon with this compressor, you will NOT need a reservoir.
The cannon IS the reservoir.

You will be able to get higher output without an extra tank.

I want the reservoir/tank for some measure of portability.

Also, I think it was Ragnarok who suggested fixing the input of the fridge compressor to the output of a conventional air compressor.

Doing this would enable quite rapid filling of a reservoir to high pressures.

That is actually quite smart...

That would be easier on the fridge compressor too.

Absolutely. It makes perfect sense. But it does limit portability, thus the tank.

that's why I think that propane tanks are more practical - they are quite light so you can add a quick connect fittings to one then pump it up disconect it and take the tank with you

the only problem is that propane tanks have different threads

@Mitchza89 hey 30 $ is quite cheap for a fridge pump in the US, I think you should buy it

Haha more then definately. Is there any reason why the compressor wouldn't be working? Just a thought that maybe I could fix it :?
