Ask again in a year.

We did buy an acreage, and will be building a house this summer/fall. (I can hardly wait to get back out of town!)

Current thinking is to get some grass eaters to keep the pasture under control, and fill the freezer for winter.

And don't forget the garden, baby potatoes, corn, and salad makings.

Close enough?

I work 8-15 hours a week at a local farm. They raise cattle, grow feed, and run several greeenhouses. I have also been fimilarized with farming living in fairly rural areas all of my life.

So I guess I do farm, however its a job rather then a lifestyle.

The farm I work on has livestock, mostly beef cows but a few chickens.

Mostly black, with a few white spots (not very many). There are also a few white cows with black spots on them.

Do you raise any livestock?
I've got some chickens. A mutt rooster, a few barred rocks, a bantam, and an easter egg chicken. 2 pigs, breeder stock. Thankfully no more goats. Gave those away to a buddy who needed brush clearing done.

4-500 mixed fish, tilapia and carp. To run the aquaponics systems.

All in all we've been parring down from the previous set of 25 goats, 6 breeder rabbits(lots of meat rabbits), 100 chickens, and 600 or so fish.
We leave the cattle up to my neighbor with his 60 acres. We go in together for the butcher fee.

I am in rural ID and am surrounded by farmers, ranchers, dairymen and hobbyists, even buffalo. I am familiar with it all but partake full time in none of it.
Do my kids count as livestock? Do you want their stats?

This test was for me only, it ended at this post submission.
1st two reply post don't count, the simple instruction was in the 3rd post.

8 out of 16 posters followed a simple one line instruction. I was hoping for more then 8, it is what it is.

Your probly wondering why I did this? Every since becoming a moderator here, I started noticing the lack of following simple instruction. That is something I never noticed before.

Don't worry about being one of the numbers, I'm guilty of the same thing! Thanks for replying, I mean that!!!

Yea, I didn't disclose what I was testing, it was you guys.

Now I'm wondering what repliers think after this getting pointed out?

Yey, I win by not posting at all!!! (And should you ask, this post is just a figment of your imagination).

I saw the topic, but as I have no relationship with farms at all, I couldn't see I needed to post.

If I'm honest jrrdw, if the question is what percentage of posters say things that don't relate to the topic, you do need to at least get an estimate of the number of people who elected not to post because they didn't have anything to add.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

I answered because I have a close connection to farming and therefore something potentially to add to whatever your followup could have been.

I didn't take your initial comments as "instructions"....they weren't presented that way. These forums are usually considered conversation, not classwork.

If presented the same sort of comment or question in the future, I may very well respond similarly.

Good opposing view, the key words are simple instruction. Post 3 in the thread, I high lighted in red to point it out after I ended it. Again, it was just something that crossed my mind and made me wonder.

This test was for me, being one of the numbers in this thread means nothing, just me wondering.

@jrrdw if you ask question like that don't expect that people will give you exactly the answer you want to get... there is a number of threads where people have asked very precise questions and they've got precise answers

on the other hand there are hundreds of threads like "how tall are you?' or something like that - generaly if you ask questions that doesn't seem to make any sense or importance don't expect people to treat them seriously
