Bad idea. You have no way of telling whether someone bought something, or just had it lying around.

In the UKSGC competition the whole thing was based on cost, the shop price and delivery fees needed to be accounted for for every item. Worked well.

But still, on a multi-national forum this big, being accurate on how much something is worth would be insanely messy even before going into how things are cheaper in certain countries.


I could do with some motivation on the cannon creation front.

i suport the competition but i have no money for an entry after i made my hybrid... and i don't think i am allowed to enter with it when it is known to everyone

I see the idea is still simmering here...I haven't heard anything from PCGUY yet so let's hold on to our horses and see if he's willing to manage the thing.

In the mean time, now would be a good time to start thinking seriously about your entry before the starting gun goes off.

I've never competed either... As long as the entry fee isn't too exorbitant, I'm prepared to run my chances against you lot (assuming the competition covers the cannon I'm likely to be building).

Most of you have a good clue what I'll be building, so you know what you're going to be up against.
Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is entirely up to you.

I'm pretty new around here so I haven't entered a contest but if I get a chance after I'm done with my piston cannon to make up a prototype of an idea I have.

I would like to compete again, but with my taste for short, smallbore, high pressure stuff, I'm likely to get mostly European votes ,maybe tsome aussies but surely not many American, who generally like the bigger is better approach.

Not that I mind, I'm fine with that.I gotz me some fans so I'm a happy camper anyway.But paying whilst knowing I won't win...now that's plain dumb aint it?
maybe I should look at is as money spent to help the hobby develop, but...


My current plans involve a large 4" barreled confetti shooter/painball mortar, wich is meant for business.It will cost quite a bit more than the average cannon, but it is no contest winner.I hope te rent it out.

The other is a 12 gram powered repeating sawed-off ( project name "Lupara") wich is something nobody will see as very innovating, considering my long build-up to such a device.

See my dilemma?

It could balance out.

If we assume that we get submissions from schools of design roughly in proportion to the forum's make up, and people will tend to vote roughly evenly for cannons that relate to the general school of design they prefer, then everyone's on a level footing from the start, and it's not something that should affect the chances of anyone in the results based on their preferred style of cannon.

So it could well be pretty fair.

Maybe.I think the pneumo's are the largest group, so more competition in that corner.I give it a 10% chance from the start I might actually win.And that is being optimistic.

It would take me a lot of work, because I would want to outdo myself in a mayor way.It might be fun though.I'd like to try a hardwood stock with checkering on the handle.

I'll stick to the promise about the Cannon-fetti thing.Has to make me some money first.
I have another project on my hands for a friend,concerning a conceiled launcher for urban use and am working on an invention with so much potential I'll have to keep it a secret untill I patent it.

Since you would be competing only in your division, I would think that a member will get to vote once in each division, otherwise it really wouldn't be a multi-divisional contest. Therefore, you may get more American vote than you think.

It really depends on how the divisions are cut out and the rules. Here was some good discussion and general agreement on some guidelines.
