I'm something of a fan of Games Workshop, I won't pretend otherwise.
Now, a game that I wish I played more often is their large scale game, Inquisitor. (And not just for the obvious Monty Python quotes.)
However, the real problem here is that the Inquisitor range is fairly limited - one particular model, nice though it is, tends to form the basis of most people's warband leader.

So, after spending ages at the character sheets, rather than diving into the parts lists to make the required models, I decided to break out the modelling putty.
This is Day one progress on the first of the models, my Inquisitor, Marco Skoll (so called because Marco is the name of one of my favourite musicians, and Skoll is a Viking wolf demi-god):
Front
Back

So far, it's just crude bulking out of the body, with some muscle groups built into the legs, but that's not bad for something I only started a few hours ago. Each of the 4 (possibly 5) models will require a couple of dozen hours work each, with fairly long curing/drying stages between each section - and that's just for the sculpting, not the painting - so it's going to be a project that's going to run for a few months.

A common practise when sculpting miniatures is to produce a semi naked model, which then has the clothing/weapons/armour added over that, and that's essentially what I'll be doing. This helps create models that are anatomically correct, and look more realistic.

Now, these models will be slightly different compared to Games Workshop's own models, because I'll be sticking closer to actual proportions. Their models tend to have large hands and heads, and proportionally thick torsos and limbs compared to the human ideal.
I'll be adjusting a couple of proportions to make my models easier to sculpt and fit in with theirs (the hands and possibly the heads will be fractionally larger than proportions would suggest), but eventually, they'll appear a lot leaner than most models.

Anyway, I shall endeavour to keep you all up dated with the progress of my model making.

If you are interested, the second character that will join the warband's ranks after Marco is completed, will be based on this character from the depths of my drawing collection, given that she's almost a ready made design. Previously, in my art, she was dubbed Abigail, but she's going to take on a new moniker for her model incarnation.

Yeah. But not so ridiculous as some I've seen.
And at least she's not half naked... at least, in that picture. You don't get to see the special pictures. :P

We'll see how it translates to the model. It'll probably be toned back a bit. :)

Cool, I didn't read the top bit cause I'm not fond at ready lengthy stuff but, is this your own character build?
It's Nerf or Nothing.

Don't start crying when I play this as my hobby, Paintball, Airsoft and Nerf are equally good hobbies, except you can play Nerf in public. Good day! Hmph!

Essentially. The objective is to build a 4 person warband for Inquisitor using a minimum of commercial parts.

I've drawn up their character sheets, now I'm making each of the models individually.

Done a bit more work, adding the boots and right trouser leg:

Leg closeup 2

Going well so far - most of the effort on the trousers is making them look crumpled in the right way, but still achieving the smooth lines and curves that make it look well done.

So, crumpled, but smooth... right.

It's a two part epoxy putty - one blue part and one yellow part. You mix them in roughly equal quantities to a green stuff (Indeed, that is it's typical name, Green stuff - formally, it's Kneadatite Blue-yellow, but that's more of a mouthful :P) that slowly hardens over about 2 or 3 hours, and is completely set in 12 to 24.

You can typically move on to another layer after the initial 2 or 3 hours - or you can go an work on another bit, as long as you don't plant your fingers in the bits that are setting.

I'm not going at it that fast though, I'm looking to do a little each day and not rush it.

Another update, with the remainder of the trousers:
Front
Back

Next stage will be the lower hem of a shirt, then body armour over the rest of the torso.

And again, now with the shirt hem and the beginnings of his body armour, which is quite drastic for a single stage really.

Body armour has had the impact plates added - holster added to right leg.

I'll be smoothing the plates a little later on with a file, but they need to be truly dry first.
