Hello, I recently thought up a design for a Halo rocket launcher style breach for a paintball cannon i am designing. I was thinking of using 1.5 inch sch 40 pvc and 2 inch sch 40 to go around. the power would be Davidvaini's pre-loaded cartridges, but filled with air only. I'm still trying to puzzle out a way to break the aluminum tape, but i'm close. i'll post some sketches when I get my scanner fixed. the ammo cartridges would be toilet paper tubes full of paintballs with paper over each end. Those can hold 24 regular paintballs BTW.

A halo rocket launcher would always be cool, 1.5" doesnt go into 2" btw...
1.25" couplings/caps/fittings fit good in 2" however.

I am not thinking of building a replica halo rocket launcher, although that may be a future project. the idea is that the breach opens like a treasure chest, thus is extremely easy to reload. Also, i was thinking of just having the cartridges go over the end of the same sized pipe. I am going to use a metal rod to break the aluminum tape, so i can fire it solo. any thoughts?
I found that with bursting a disk, especially with the aluminum tape, it either does not open very fast, or it just leaks. This is because to be relatively safe, one should keep the pressure relatively below the bursting point.
The best method is to over pressurize. One gets a lot more power out of that.

Have you considered combustion cartridges?

I did think of that, but my folks are against explosives and fire. Doesn't stop me from using rubbing alcohol to... wait saying that would break the rules wouldn't it now....

Not if your using it to fuel a combustion launcher of some type. However, using it out of any type of launcher as a explosive projectile is against the rules....kuroryuu010 wrote:I did think of that, but my folks are against explosives and fire. yep, against the rules. It involves beer bottles (not saying who drank the beer
) rubbing alcohol, some steel wool and my friends cb cannon. you get the idea.

Also, that suggestions with the sharpened metal ring sounds decent, but how would i rig that? I was thinking of just folding the tape onto itself on the non-sticky side so it would rip open. also, i would put it as close to burst point as possible. Overpressurization is not a method that would be convenient for this.
