I just made a simple crossbow out of some wood and a bow I got a garage sale. I was thinking maybe i could make some sort of piston inside a chamber type thing to use it as a fast to reload, small caliber potato gun. I know they make bows like this for paintball but would it be possible to make and effective one myself. If so any ideas for how to do it.

This is especially how NERF guns work. They use a piston that is pulled back and a spring behind it that, when triggered, pushes the piston forward really quickly and compresses the air.

This is how all spring-piston airguns work.
