clear schedule 80 pvc safe for hybrids?
I would make it out of 2" sch40. But dont go higher than a 3X mix. How long is the chamber going to be? I would put a coupling ever 10" for extra strenght. Use a threaded end cap, and get a sch80 union tho. Make sure you remote fire it. Good luck and if you blow your self up I am not responaple.

WOW- what the fuck would a coupling every 10" do? Are you just talking out of your ass or what?
Anyways, nothing on a hybrid is safe. Nothing. If you have pipe rated to 200psi, then a 2x or maybe 3x can be repeatedly done without failure, but this does NOT make it safe by any standards. It took a 4x mix to blow the DWV cleanout on my MiniHybrid, but that is no scientific determination of a DWV cleanout strength, much less pipe strength.
On an unrelated note: "responaple" just got added to my list of favorite idiotic spellings.

Have you seen the price of clear PVC?beebs111 wrote:no, 2" steel is really expensive,$5.50 a foot at my local hardware store
hold on ill check
$8.20 a foot..............
$8.20 a foot..............

there a hand held mini hybrid on this forum with sch 40 dwv fittings on it that can handle 2x mixes.Mihlrad wrote:50 feet? He will still has a chance to get badly injured at that range... if the pvc has enough force behind it to shatter like a grenade, i dont think 50 feet is saving you from getting shreded by shrapnel.beebs111 wrote:hey, i got a good idea......make the gun, then remote fire it from 50 feet back!!!!! just stick with a 2x mix, and youll be good
obviously that guy doesn't have weak-pipe-a-phobia like most people on this site. some people are just too chicken. you think the first person to make a spudgun was concerned?(the ducted taped beer can gun) hell no! he prolly drank all those cans empty 30 minutes before he fired the gun
lol.
do you think i was concerned when my first pnuematic was almost all DWV fittings? heck no! i loaded it to 110 psi at least 100 times over.
and don't give me crap about "the extreme power of a hybrid" because pressure rated sch 80 pipe is gonna handle a 2x.

Also one thing to consider is on combustions and hybrids is that there is a safety factor built right in. Before the pressure blows the PVC it’s going to push the potato out the barrel, in most cases. Not including acetylene or NSF DWV. As long as it takes less force to push the potato out the barrel than to explode your gun you're safe.

My point exactly.beebs111 wrote:hold on ill check

good point, thanks for adding in. but the hybrid needs to pop the burst disk first.carlbelcher wrote:Also one thing to consider is on combustions and hybrids is that there is a safety factor built right in. so...
As long as it takes less force to rupture the burst disk than to explode your gun you are safe.

That’s very true. The good thing is that in a hybrid the burst disk only need to hold back ~43.5psi and that’s for a 3x mix.
the burst disk isnt intirely made to keep the pressure from the inital mix back, it is also there to allow the pressure to build up before the projectile if fired, say around 100 psi for a soda bottle burst disk, which allows for a much more powerful shot

That’s true, like huse_spud said "As long as it takes less force to rupture the burst disk than to explode your gun you are safe."
great, now i want to attempt my first hybrid (sarcasm).
I think im actually gonna do it. I'm excited.
must continue research...
must learn all that i can...
the learning never ends at the spudgun academy.

Hybrids sound pretty good but I think I'm just a pneumatics kind of guy.
yeah me too carlbelcher, but i think it's time for me to jump out of the comfort zone.
where do people obtain their sch 80 fittings? lowes? specialty store that is impossible to find? there is a midwestern chain called Menards that carries 2" sch 80 pipe, i saw it 3 weeks ago.
cam levers or union?

I'm lucky I have a "Ranch Right Hardware" here in Grand Junction but they are just local, not chain. They have every fitting I could ever want.
