Maybe, maybe not. Most household appliances like dishwashers, washing machines, furnaces, water heaters ... have a 24V transformer. It is extremely dangerous (and frowned upon by safety organizations like UL) to have mains power anywhere near water or large amounts of sheet metal. There is almost always an isolation transformer that also steps down the voltage.

You could just attach a servo to a ballvalve seen as open time doesn't bother you, and use standard rc gear to control it. Just a thought..
