Ok guys i give in.
I am going to construct a new gun with the 3" poly valve to store in a shed at my 5 acre block as what i plan to construct will not be useable in surburbia.
It will be mounted to a trailer type thing for moving it around and be able to be dissasembled for taking it other places.
- I plan to have a big (read: massive) chamber.
- multiple barrels of around 15' in length (for transport) longer to keep at block.
- 200psi operating pressure
So what im looking for from you guys is sugestions. Below are my, well i dont know what they are, they're just facts i spose.
- I can weld so welding is not of the question (chamber will be metal)
- barrels will have to have a way to be straight (kept that way), light (ish) and moveable.
Attached is a picture of my valve incase some of you have not seen it.
220psi rated
3" porting
3" Sprinkler Gun (Bigger)

Sweet valve. Some design considerationsCarlman wrote:Ok guys i give in.

What are you planning on launching. Most pumpkin chunking is done at under 40 PSI to prevent pie in the sky, For expansion of the low pressure, large tanks are needed.
Smaller tanks at higher pressure hold the same mass of air but at higher energy
I would recommend sizing the tank for the intended working pressure and the rate that volume can be delivered through a 3 inch valve. There is diminishing returns on oversize tanks but the burden of filling it can be burdensome. Do you have a trailer mount jackhammer compressor? If not, limited chamber size is a consideration.
I'm looking at a 15 gallon propane tank for my 3 inch 200 PSI valve cannon.
Are you considering any valve mods? IF so is there any chance it will cause valve failure?

I was thinking a car LPG tank as my chamber, thoughts?
I plan on launching what i always launch, anything that fits in the barrel! But most likely large vegies at lower pressure then other more shock resistant projectiles as higher pressure is used.
No valve mods will be nesesary as it is rated to 220psi from the factory, except modding the valve for pnuematic actuation that is, which will most probobly be a 1" BV

THye should make it a burst disk gun and keep the valve.Carlman wrote:It made me want to do better as i was cursing at them for using a gate valve on such a beast of a cannon

How fast is it? At higher pressure, a faster valve is necessary for efficient operation as more goes through the valve as it opens. Ball valves and butterfly valves are OK for low pressure stuff. Hammer valves, burst disk, and QEV's make or break high pressure performanceCarlman wrote: No valve mods will be nesesary as it is rated to 220psi from the factory, except modding the valve for pnuematic actuation that is, which will most probobly be a 1" BV
That is a big valve.
5 acres ain't gonna be big enough for that cannon.
Are the barrels steel or plastic. Either way if you can weld a straight edge to them that should firm up the barrels.
By the way I don't think spuds come that big
You could call it the mother in law cannon on account of the fact it is nearly big enough to launch her out of it

5 acres will be plenty with a good backstop, the block is 500m long.
Barrels will be plastic most probobly, it will be hard to find 3" barrel with smooth insides.
Thats why we have pumpkins.
