How does an airsoft gearbox run on semi-auto?

I already know how an AEG gearbox runs on full auto, but I'm still not quite sure how the semi-auto function works. I researched and found out that: "If semi-automatic fire has been selected, the sector gear activates an electrical cut-off as it returns to its starting position. This stops the cycle where it started ready for the next shot. If fully-automatic fire has been selected, this cut-off simply does not engage, allowing this cycle to be repeated over and over until the trigger is released." When full automatic is engaged the switch is turned off or moved out of the stroke of the piston. When semi automatic is engaged the switch can be struck which stops the mechanism from operating again before the trigger is released and depressed again.

It says so right in the description.

Sorry. I just want to know, since I'm attempting to build a very primitive version of a gearbox. I should have asked if there was ever an animation diagram of a gearbox that shows how this particular feature works.

The switch has nothing to do with the gearbox, it just (to a degree) switches it on and off.
