Lawn mower exaust

[WOW!!]

Iam going to put a exaust system on my mower. I did it before on my old mower(copper pipe and held together with rivets). I got some metal pipe(1/2"). Tho I dont know were to put it, I could do stacks or wrap it around the back or go around the front, any suggestions??. Iam going to cut the muffler open and get the restrictive stuff out of it.

Well- if the exhaust is pointed forwards in that fashion, the gases escaping are forced into the wind, creating a huge massive force against the pusher. Its logic man.




Also my sarcasm. I think it's cool. Do you need more power?

O no the pipe isnt staying like that, I just put it on to take the pic, I am going to change it, that is why I put it on here is for suggestions. And for the power, what do you mean?

You're taking away the restriction. It'll eat up more gas, but should have more power.

I did this to my lawnmower and I think that if you take off the two bolts holding on the stock mufler, the exauhst port is threaded or at least mine was. But be carefull as to how much piping you put on that port because I made mine with dual exhaust and it broke the side of the threads off since the piping was heavy.

You do need a certain amount of back pressure though. I tried running a lawnmower just without a muffler and it wouldn't run more than maybe 20 seconds after removing the muffler since the engine had to be started with it attatched. This was with a 3 HP Tecumseh "L" head (flathead). Then a few months later I tried it with a Tecumseh OHV engine. That one just ran really crappy.
Plus, its really was really really loud.
I would suggest not damaging your muffler so that you can put it back if you need to.
Good luck, maybe you can actually get the engine to run with such a free flowing exhaust.

I believe that Briggs&Stratton engines (at least the small ones) have that. Tecumseh engines don't, at least all of them that I have seen.
Be careful if you do put an exhaust sytem on like this, you don't want to get dirt and junk coming back in the exhaust system. Dirt or grass clippings could trap water and rust the pipe or the exhaust valve. Or water could get inside the engine and rust the piston rings in place, seizing the engine up. Wasps make nests anywhere they can, so they could make a nest in the pipe.
All in all, I just think that this is a rediculous idea.

It will run with out the pipe, kind of loud but not really, and if anything gets inthe exaust it will be blown out, the heat will casue the grass to dry up along with everything eles. And if there is any water in there you dont have to worry as much about the piston rings and the block and the contaminated oil.

I bought one of those stright mufflers in the lawn mower section so that it would run a little bit quieter. But still I didnt even get to mow a lawn with it, I broke off the side of the exhaust port and screwed up my whole engine.
