Fractional HP units (less than 1 HP) are OK on 25 foot 14 AWG or 50 foot 12 AWG cords. Heavy duty sometimes refers to the amount of rough use it can take, not the heavy load it can handle. Check the wire size. Don't use a 16 AWG of any length with the compressor.
