Is the vortex itself 3" in diameter or is the housing for it?

The vortex block is in side on a 3" plug.

Then it should be the same as a 2" vortex, just in a bigger space. Make it into a double vortex and split the airstream going in into 2 blowguns. 3" is enough space.

Just get a 1/2" PVC one. They're like 3 bucks compared to 8 for a 1/4" ball valve.

It won't work. Strafers work on the concept of some pressure in the chamber, a 3inch chamber is WAY too huge. WIth the air that leaves the barrel, your chamber will have hardly enough pressure to get any kind of power behind the BBs.
