I want to make a pneumatic cannon, but wanna keep it smalller. I was thinking like a 2 inch chamber like 24 to 30 inches with a sprinkler valve and a few different barrels like a golf ball barrel, a marble barrel, and so on. Will I get much power out of this without making a piston valve??

Are you experienced with piston valves? I would recommend building a coax piston valve. They're so powerful And simple to build. Also great first piston valve project. If it was possible to easily incorporate changeable barrels into a coax then it would be the best kind of cannon in my opinion.

But I think if you built one that was either golf ball or 1" barrel or anything else then you would be very happy with the power
If life gives you lemons, put them in your cannon and shoot them back at life!

Matty, a bigger chamber won't solve your problems. Bigger is not always better, unless its pressures :D

What you need is a quick exhaust valve, and a slide valve. Take a look at LockednLoaded's Tacticool mortar to see what I mean. (Just don't bump his thread ok?)

Tony 48 I have yet to build a piston valve. This will be my 2nd pneumatic so Im taking it slow, learning as much as I can before I start on a piston valve. Dont get me wrong, I would love to build one, Im just the kind of person that needs to see things first hand, and not from a diagram or blue prints!!

*facepalm* I really wish I got more pictures of the cannon I made for a friend. It used a 2" by 2' chamber, and a 3/4" QEV with a 1/4" blowgun, and a 2" by 2' barrel. I shot a nerf pocket vortex about 200 meters before it starting falling back to earth. And that was straight up. I put on a 3/4" barrel, and I shot a cork at about 700 fps thanks to you putting the numbers in for me.

200 meters straight up on a 3/4" QEV? I doubt that, not enough flow IMO. A 2" piston will work wonders.

This thing has power. I shot a shotgun load of foam pellets from a bean bag through sheet metal.

I have a hard time believing that you shot through sheet metal with styrofoam.

A simple piston valve that you can build with minimal knowledge is a bolt and washer piston. They aren't very picky IMO. Mine has worked like a charm and is an amazing improvement over my modded sprinkler valve. I shoot AA batteries with an airtight sabot at about 315fps with 85.5 ft/lbs(116 Joules). Mine is only a 1'' seat in a 1.5'' tee.
