You mean like open up an official entry thread and sticky it or something?
That would be cool but..
I don't want this to become something that concerns votes.
Everybody wins...

Anything that doesn't get buried a couple weeks would be good, but I was thinking more of a front-page contest like PCGUY normally has every so often.
Though in this case... the way you'd want it, it would have to be handled less like a contest, more like an online machinists convention

If the idea ever developes into a real contest with voting, judges, rules, etc......I'd donate a NEW one of these (minus shipping).Brian the brain wrote:I don't want this to become something that concerns votes.

Exactly JSR!
Just take a look at last time winners....
I can tell you right now that the one with the best machinery wins such a contest. If the idea ever developes into a real contest with voting, judges, rules, etc......I'd donate a NEW one of these (minus shipping).

I'm not interested in seeing a competition between CNC machines as I'm well aware of their capabilities. I or 2 simple machine parts are OK with me, but I would like to see a contest that pushes the typical SF member to raise the bar on their imagination, design and effort rather than more of the same. But hey....it was just a thought. Forget I said anything.Brian the brain wrote:I can tell you right now that the one with the best machinery wins such a contest.

You're always welcome to share your view.I'm not trying to shut you up.But hey....it was just a thought. Forget I said anything.
My view on the matter is basically what Spudblaster said.
Or...
maybe a bit of both actually.
I'm all for shiny well made stuff but not so much if it's the same old thing but just done on a cnc.
Still cool though.
I called the challenge cause I needed one myself and I would like to see other members try to achieve higher goals as well.
I'm all for the "art"' bit of it.
The clever stuff
I think we all agree on that...

The trouble starts at voting.
And frankly, I don't think I'd be happier winning the "favourite gun on the site" than this "every body wins" thing where everybody ends up with something above expectations and I can welcome some new inspiration.
I'd like to see JSR get his act together and actually build a complete cannon.
With his mind it would be the most awsome thing the web has ever seen.
He's got the machines and the idea's but where's that cannon?
An integrally suppressed cartridge ejecting bullpup perhaps?
Maybe he's just waiting for someone to say: "beat this!!"
You know you can JSR!

For me it worked eventhough I did not end up with a "store-bought" looking cannon.
It is definately of a quality that will last a lifetime with some maintenance.
People are amazed when they see it and go: "How the hell did you come up with this?!?"
The vibe is back and I can't wait to try even more new stuff.
Now all I wanna do is infect the forum.
