Seriously? We're talking about a laser-guided round usable by a sniper team, and you propose instead using a chunk of robotics the size of a motorcycle? We're starting to get a bit silly-season with this one, man. The point of sniper teams is to be highly mobile and stealthy. You deploy two men, with three rifles (yes, three, the AMR for the shooter, a lighter DMR for the spotter, and a select-fire carbine for the shooter to use while on the move, as AMRs are a bitch to use in close engagement). They deploy, get close, cover and conceal, make the shot, and amscray. Your automated system would take four guys just to carry the damned thing, and that's assuming you replace the massive control set-up with a smart-phone app. The guided round takes the round itself, an AMR, and a laser designator that can actually be mounted on the spotters rifle without adding more than a few ounces.

The M829 APFSDS round is still hurtling along at 4500 fps after travelling 5 kilometres, it won't be lacking energy at longer ranges.

Fired at a 10 degree angle, it will range to 29 kilometres, maximum range is a mind blowing 113 kilometres - surely such rounds would benefit from guidance.

Tanks are a direct-fire system, NOT indirect-fire artillery. They are a specialized unit intended ONLY for direct engagement. And in direct engagement, an M1A1 DOES NOT NEED laser guidance. It would offer them no advantage over current in-turret systems at line-of-sight distances. Further, you'd be taking up precious ammo storage to carry these rounds. Better to save this tech for artillery units, whose mission IS indirect-fire support, and aren't constrained by having extremely tight storage space.



As for the rest of your post: I really don't get it. You make my case for me about small/fast/dense penetrators, then turn around and go back to your argument for low-velocity systems. And you're proposing a solution for a problem that's already been thoroughly solved, as YOU point out with your own post...

Seriously, you're all over the place, showing five different alternatives that STILL don't take the place of ONE simple rifle. None of your proposals are as effective or flexible as a two-man team with an AMR. And when you add that two-man team to a rifle squad, you've got the most effective squad-level ground force in the world.

Well actually, you're not far off. If you empower women in these third world countries, there's a good chance they start getting their act together. I feel this may be due to a correlation not directly related to women actually having their say on matters, it's probably a social consequence where a society that goes from extreme inequality to equality forces changes in other areas such as religion, economics and the work force that allows them to build stable governments, have economies and less corruption.

To be fair though, a lot of the over-population is in either countries that are third world or parts of countries that are in poverty where a new born baby will probably grow to have a 'carbon footprint' 1400% less than ours (or whatever the number is). It's not really up to us Westerners to control this over-population problem, we have to rely on these other countries to pull their fingers out and want to help... which is unfortunate because it's going to become a pretty big problem in our life times.

i know i need to call my title and tag shop , but was just lookin for basic knowledge

When I inspected cars in PA for my friend we sent them to a heavy truck repair shop, that was in 1981. 1st call your local DMV and find out how to get it titled, you might even wind up calling the main place in Harrisburg.

Then call your local inspection shops/repair shops and just ask them where to get it done. You need to prove ownership first. See if the prior owners will go with you to the public notary for proof of ownership, just like you have to do cars in PA.

thats the problem there is no owner,and no i did not steal it

i called the notary and asked they said if you can find a vin number somewhere you wont need to get it inspected, if there isnt you need one,

I appreciate that it may just be some place holder (why are there numbers so damn exact anyway?) but the appropriate thing to do would be to put an estimate of like 10,000 or actually do the research to see a hypothesised minimum population value where humans could successfully thrive (or the actual hypothesised value of early human populations).

Oh and the assumptions for these calculations are the width of America yet the numbers are apparently accurate to 11 decimal places.

And you don't see many scientists using BC and not BP or KYA these days.

You can mount one on a humvee or UGV

It can be fully stabilised, have a laser rangefinder and designator, ballistic computer and can be armed with something more substantial than 0.50 cal gun

Sure but at the same time we have population decline in developed countries (probably it isn't noticable in countries with a lot of immigration - like the USA). You might assume it's not a big deal but in fact it is.

That wasn't exactly a scientific research paper done on the population trends of the homosapien. It was more along the lines of an editorial in response to a somewhat silly question.

I mean... A quick google of the editor shows he's clearly not in any position to do a serious study on human population trends - from a scientific stand point. He's merely a journalist writing an article using information he probably googled... have a look see for your self:

I'm aware he's overwhelmingly unqualified to answer such a question but that's part of the reason it annoys me so much. He could have spent 20 minutes on the phone to someone at a local university or he could've jumped on Wikipedia for 20 minutes, it's not difficult. Articles like these are great at spreading science misinformation. Things like "if evolution is true, why are there still chimpanzees/apes/monkeys/primates?" come from bad journalism a lot of the time.

While someone like you or me could pick the flaws in such an article, I doubt any of my friends could.

There's been a flurry of sh|t scientific journalism in the press lately, I'm on edge haha.

No offence but I think you've seen way too many movies


I mentioned that they can carry a laser designator and use laser guided mortar/artillery rounds - that's a PRACTICAL solution... snipers suck when fighting anything else than infantry

lol be realistic - a sniper team with an AMR rifle is marginally effective against lightly armoured vehicles... sure it can disable a truck, communication equipment and maybe even a hummer, but it stands no chance against anything heavier than that


if you've got a laser designator you can destroy your target with laser guided shells and it doesn't matter if the target is 1 or 4 km away... there is no need to carry around a heavy rifle that sucks against anything aroured
