Are you sure, it isolates the IR?
Yes, a mirror finish on copper will reflect something like 99% of IR light in the wavelengths commonly associated with 'heat'. Gold will usually be a little better, but obviously it's not worth the extra cost.

A little experiment you can try yourself, cut the top off a aluminium soft drink can, fold away the edges of the cut so you don't hurt yourself and stick your fingers inside, you will be amazed how hot they get as the heat normally lost to the atmosphere is reflected back.
