He's not MY President.....never was!
maybe there are some things that he could be doing instead
Well, he could resign, but he'd probably screw that up too.

First of all, he probably didn't write the speech. Second, I don't really see anything that bad about what he said. Anyone who knows about the existence of Auschwitz surely knows he was referring to Nazi death camps in Poland. It's not like someone is going to go "Poland had death camps? Wow, they must be heartless sub-humans, I'm going to go Goolge 'Polish Death Camps' to find out what these pigs did! Oh looky here, it seems this is a common mistake and shouldn't result in a President only being lambasted because it's election year. At least now I know it was those damn Nazis and not Poles who committed this atrocious act *Smarter Every Day*". Not that Poland don't have a right to request an apology, but they already have got one and what Obama said wasn't even that big of a deal.

Also, this discussion needs to be apolitical. I removed some of POLAND's original reply that can be seen in velocity's reply but I will also delete any further posts that refer to what POLAND originally said or velocity's reply.

I'm not even sure why I left this topic open so if anyone strays too far, it's going to be locked.

There were plenty of Germans who did not support Hitler or the Nazi party.

And not all of them were jews...

Topic Locked, ramses is right. You know Hitler's Nazi party never achieved a majority in the voting right? Also, if I recall correctly, Hindenburg was the only one at the time (1920-30s in Germany) to achieve more than 50% in the Presidential elections. The Nazi party peaked in the party elections in mid '32 at ~37% but actually lost seats in their last legitimate election near the end of '32 (33.1%). I don't really count the March '33 elections (~44%) as legitimate because Hitler was already Chancellor and had done various things to stop people voting communist.

Also, as far as I'm aware, all death camps were controlled, run and organised by the SS and not regular soldiers in the Wehrmacht. While I wouldn't object to someone calling them "German death camps" off-hand, I would object in your case where you deny the use of the term "Nazi death camps".

I'm well aware of the crimes German people (and others) committed against Poland and Polish people during the second world war but this is not an appropriate discussion for this forum. Calling them "German death camps" seems just as wrong as calling them "Polish death camps".
