Yup... it won't work in the real world.

Drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), have been used in prison smuggling attempts in the past.
what if they are used to carry out assassinations?

Yup

...and thus governments will sooner or later have to invest some serious $$$ in systems that can detect and track drones

An M67 fragmentation grenade weighs a mere 400 grams, of which around 200 grams is energetic material. Something like this is cheap and can carry 500 grams comfortably: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hobbylord-Bumbl ... 4172db453c

It can be flown through a window and take out everyone inside a medium sized room.

Scary, scary stuff.

Modern AA radars can track small drones with ease, I guess they are already protecting important targets.

edit: slightly related, Tunguska goes nuts!

From now on we must shoot any of these flying objects in the neighbourhood, who knows we might save some innocent lives 8)

You could render most hobbyist level drones or FPV planes using jamming. Though it probably isn't entirely legal.

You could jam radio controlled devices, but not GPS control without causing major disruptions in an urban area. Inertial control would be impossible to jam, though presumably not as accurate.

Using limited power and high gain directional antennas (Sat Dish) GPS for a target can be disrupted while limiting the range of interference on the ground to a very small footprint. For example, hitting a drone at 1500 feet while not disturbing in vehicle nav beyond 250 feet.

L1 frequency is 1575.42 MHz and easily directed with a mid size dish or compact yagi antenna.
L2 is 1227.60 MHz
Stay away from L3 and above. Drones don't use them.

After launching rolls of paper into steamers, I think launching a few spools of wire or fishline over the craft would be quite effective.
