Combustion operating temperatures

Quick simple question. I live in Michigan and it getting colder around 42 degress F for the highs. So what is the min. firing temperature. I think it would be safe but better ask. Thanks

The reason is that pvc become extremely brittle at low temperature and will easily shatter.

hmmm that sucks...my first gun is PVC and the temps are around 5degrees celsius +/- these days. is it still safe to shoot it? i want to try it out

So let me clarify this. Shooting a pvc gun around 42 F is not safe.

It's more brittle.
Of course, some steels are also pretty brittle.

The downside of it being more brittle (by definition, IIRC) is that it can't flex as much and will fracture with a lesser blow. That is, a pneumatic is more likely to blow up if you drop it, and an over-under combustion is more likely to fracture an elbow.

Now, while it might not be a good idea, you'll most likely be fine if you operate a liniar combustion spudgun at depressed temperatures.
...but of course, I'm not an engeineer.

hey! I'm in Michigan, too. where are you? I'm in white lake. today we got into the car, and the thermometer said 39* Fahrenheit weather's been crappy lately, but I shot my cannon two days ago, and It was fine. you should be fine. do whatever you are comfortable with.

Thats cool I live in south lansing. But we own like 10 acres in eaton rapids so I shoot and do stuff there. yeah the weather is crappy.
