they didn't weld it shut...they only stuck finger in it, but I agree it does seem fakesqueaks wrote:I don't beleive it could have happened. It is harder to blow a barrel up than you think. That bannana peeling looks oddly fake. If the mythbusters did everything they could try to bust a barrel like that(including welding the barrel shut) and only got a slight bulge in the barrel then there is no way they could get this extreme of an effect.

After they busted the finger myth, they tried to make the barrel peel like a bannana. They rammed a steel spike in the end of the barrel then welded it in.
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.
