Perhaps, but lets take discussion of the big guns to another topic.
but I am curious as to how your belt feed mechanism works.

Why's that?iknowmy3tables wrote:if you choose Britain you could get the ghetto award
copied (badly) by the US to make the M60I’ve got an idea for a belt-fed MG42
Designed by an American, initially rejected by the US and adopted by BritainI’ve always thought a Lewis gun would be cool.
The idea was copied by the US to make the M3 "greasegun"But a STEN would be fun, not to mention simple!

britain was known for making crude ugly stuff to keep up with new weapons like the sten gun, and their anti-tank RPG during WWII,
lets not have another interational debate
ok back to the gun I was just wondering if you've seen to boltsniper.com, they have fairly effective ejection systems

Every country made crude weapons for the sake of mass production, as I mentioned the Sten not only inspired the US to make the M3 submachinegun but the Germans even made a straight copy of it. The Russians had their PPS-43, my point is that it's unfair to pick on the British for making crude weapons in times of War. They did, after all, had the might of the Nazi military literally at their doorstep, unlike America that enjoyed geographical separation from the conflict - not a single fixed wing Axis bomber attacked the continental US during WW2, you can take your weapons design and production a little easier when your factories and workforce aren't being bombed to oblivioniknowmy3tables wrote:britain was known for making crude ugly stuff to keep up with new weapons like the sten gun, and their anti-tank RPG during WWII

Actually the early model STENs were good guns, not as good as the Thompson of course, but still nicer than the late model junk. I’ve heard of STENs made with just a drill press, a file, and scrap metal. The nicest thing about them is there so dang simple to make!
And yeah, I’ve seen boltsniper, studied the FAR and the other one intensively.
Anyway, back to the matter at hand, which do you think would be the best feed setup?
Top-feed, side-eject.
Side-feed, side-eject.
Or side-feed, top-eject.
Can’t do bottom feed because that’s were the guts are.
Personally, I like the top-eject; nothing like watching brass, or plastic in this case, channeling out the top like on the some of the greatest firearms ever to breath lead, i.e. the M1 Garand, the old lever-guns, the Thompson, etc.

Now here’s the thing, with the top-feed side-eject, as on the Bren, the magazine is right there in front of you, easy to change from the prone position, and looks kind of cool. In addition the magazine is less likely to get damaged as it’s out of the way more than on a side-feed.
Unfortunately, with the magazine strait up like that the sights must be placed of center, not that I’m expecting pin-point accuracy, just that it’ll make it a little awkward to aim. Plus with the magazine up like that, it stands out a little more.
With side-feed the magazine is off to one side, still not to hard to change from the prone position, allows you to sight down the length of the gun, and allows top-eject, which, as I said, looks cool.
Downside is its just hanging out there, whereas with a top-feed the magazine is rested on the receiver, and is more likely to get damaged.
You know, I could redesign the gun and put the guts off to the side and have bottom-feed top eject, but that’ll make the receiver look weird. Or I could put the guts over the barrel and have bottom-feed side-eject, which wouldn’t look that bad. Both of those would make the gun look more American, most of the top/side-feed weapons are French, British, or Japanese(T99).

I don't know how "top ejecting" guns work without all rounds coming out, but the most reliable i believe would be top feed bottom eject since gravity is helping the ejection, and feeding and it always helps to have a spring loaded force, or gravity force helping either, but bottom ejecting is a little boring.
I think top feed side is good, but thats probably because I'm not sure on how an inline ejection-feed (bottom top, side side) works and iffy on a top eject since the last time I tweaked my Deus ex Machina it wouldn't eject if the port is pointed straight up

Is this American enough for you ;p
Or if you really want to complicate matters, how about forward-ejecting like the FN2000

If you still want to do your belt fed system then you could use this. You could either make it keep one long chain or have thebelt cut off after each round is fired. The casing willcome out on the other side and will still have the effect of a real gun.

How could I have forgotten the Johnson m41 LMG?!
Hum… another thing with a setup like this (Johnson M41) is it’ll be easier to adapt to a belt-feed.
…Both weapons (the Johnson and the German FG42) proved somewhat awkward to carry with a loaded, side-mounted magazine (especially the Johnson, which had a magazine with an unnecessarily lengthy single-column design), and this feature tended to unbalance the guns…

Yeah, is the information classified, or is it okay to discus it here? If it is, and if you wish, I can upload it for you.Suppressive Fire wrote:Judgement Arms- Did you get the diagram e-mail?
By the way thanks.
Sorry, Us sniper, missed your post.
No this one’ll be magazine fed. A later model will be belt fed though.

You can upload it if you like because I've already redesgined it to be blow forward as the bolt will compress the spring with the recoil of the gun and too much gas would be lost on shell ejection. Anyone can also feel free to suggest improvements to it. My only condition is that nobody claims it as their own design. If you like I can send out the blow forward redesign when I finish it.
