QEV or piston valve?

I'm almost done with my marble sniper, but i can't decide on whether I should use my 3/4" QEV or build a 1" porting piston. My chamber is about 24" of 1 1/4" pvc and my barrel is about 4 feet of 1/2" pvc. If I used the QEV, I would have to reduce the output to 1/2", and I would have to do the same with the piston valve, so I dunno which would work better.
Summer Projects:
CO2 tank hybrid: Gotta fix the meter
Cane gun: Needs a pilot/fill setup
1.5" piston valve gun: Almost done

well they both should be the same..as all a qev is is a commercially made piston or diaphragm valve..
1 QEV-spend 20+ dollars on a piston that can jsut screw on
2. PISTON-spend 10 dollars on the materials and have the time of your life when your first piston valve works (if its your first)

I think I'll go with the piston valve. Oh, and I've already made 4 piston valves...

If it's a 3/4" QEV and a piston with 1" porting, then they aren't the same. The piston would have better flow.spudthug wrote:well they both should be the same..as all a qev is is a commercially made piston or diaphragm valve..

True, though considering it's a half inch barrel, I doubt there'd be a noticeable difference in performance if they opened at the same time.Modderxtrordanare wrote:If it's a 3/4" QEV and a piston with 1" porting, then they aren't the same. The piston would have better flow.
Use the one with the smallest pilot volume

I would go with a piston valve as aesthetically (sp?) they look cleaner and dont draw the eye straight to them like a big shiny QEV dose.
With most QEVs there is the problem of having to choke down fittings around the QEV itself to fit it together, decreasing preformance a bit. Unles you have a huge QEv (1" ect) but they cost alot more then the 3/4" ones.
Also, with piston valves, you aren't limetted to an over/under setup and can have the gun looking better.
