Capacitors!

Ok, so it turned out I was getting a 3.7 KJ bank instead of a 5 KJ.
Still a good deal for 50 dolla.

The good thing is, even if the railgun doesn't work out I have enough power for half a dozen other ideas.

Holly crap those be some big ass capacitors, they would make nice ammo in a 4 inch barrel, and when the blow right through a person they would shoke him too:)
Reminds me of my plans for a 10 mf capacitor belted gun, zap zap zap zap:)

you could make a lethal stun gun with one of those suckers (not saying you should *wink*wink*)

and my god....400V / 3900uf....I've been dreaming to own something of that ungodly power for years

Okay today I worked on my mini coaxial which is getting really annoying to perfect. Ive never made something so small and i dont have any high presicion tools except for a dremel.
i lightened the piston of it, glued the chamber together and worked intensley on getting the piston to seal which is my main problem and didnt get anywhere it just got worse if anything.
I planned out my hybrid which I will start this weekend and finish in three weeks from now hopefully sooner.
Experimented with triggered burst disks on the KAMG,is working pretty well will finish it this weekend.

I showed off my 1.5" barreled sprinkler pneumatic today at this kids house that we were filming out WW2 history project movie. I shot one of those weird lumpy balls that grow on oak trees by using a sock as wadding. The people around me were awed as they watched the screaming projectile climb roughly 150 feet in the air above.

I wish I had some people to show off my cannons to(Im not saying I have no friends I have a lot of friends im just saying that they just dont care for spudgunning).

Yep, similar story here. We might need the gun for special effects so thats why I brought it to the filming site. They all thought it was pretty awesome, but I doubt most of them would attempt to build one (I thinks one actually did build one before, but it wasn't a pneumatic).

Very, very few people are even slightly interested in spudguns, it's just a fact that we have to accept. Very few young people want to "make their own fun" anymore, and they seem to have lost that spirit of creativity that used to be so common.

In the world of spuds today, I built an extremely simple prototype for an APFSDS round I'm working on. The final version will include sheet metal fins that are epoxied on, a steel rather than plastic body, and a sharpened tip made from hardened steel bar stock.

What does the sabot look like? Have you considered using full calibre fins to stabilise it in the barrel?

In the world of spuds today, I tested my new 50mm cannnister round with a load of 20 standard sized glass marbles. The target was some of that exceptionally tough, unidentified laminated board that I have in my shed (I'm not even sure if it's wood or not, it behaves like stone in some cases ).

Testing hit a snag, and I think I know why - the pilot volume was too large, and the pressure had dropped too low before the nitrogen hit the second disk. I simply closed the firing valve, and pressurised the chamber till it burst, meaning that I was using over 230 ci of chamber volume at almost 200 psi. The disk was 2.25" OD (2" union), and 24 layers thick. Flow is choked by a 1.5" nipple at the moment, but the results were quite impressive:

Also in the world of spuds today, I made a much better version of the APFSDS round, which is only missing an upper sabot now. The fins fit perfectly in a 50mm barrel (actually 2.067", or 52.5mm):



And finally, I'll have to rebuild the SCTBDC valve again, because of the issue with too much dead space. When I'm done with the damned thing this time, dead space will be about 5 ci.

No holes in the door then, but what about the far side wall?

Nice long rod penetrator there, it looks capable of some serious penetration.

The biggest pieces of marble I found after were about 1/4" square. No holes in anything that wasn't supposed to be holed, I think

EDIT: I just did some throwing tests with the APFSDS round, and the rod might need to be a bit shorter, or the tail might need to be longer. Either way, it doesn't fly very straight right now.
