Jsr, a little off topic from what you guys are discussing, but on topic of the thread. I would get the lathe/mill, but thats because I only have the common house hold items (hack saw, drill, screw drivers, hammers, tape measure). In my opinion I would get it because it is compact and all in one. If some thing breaks, I would say its time to practice soldering again. In other words, why buy it if you cant fix it? Infact, thats going as my sig.

their was a lathe just like this one(but blue) at the market on satday he was asking 300, didn't have any cash on me but next week ill be back if i can get it for 250 im buy it. the same guy always has wood lathes, but thats useless for me

Do you really want me to answer if I have fixed a tv? Either way I will, and yes I have fixed a tv.

Because if you buy a good lathe, it will have sturdy parts and won't break down very fast.

May sound stupid, but it makes sense to me. I own a phone, my dad has a camera he lets me use every now and then, I also own an mp3 player and a computer. But in the event of something breaking down, it would be good if you knew how to fix it.

And, do you know how to fix your stuff?

If a lathe breaks down, there allways will be a person with experience on how to fix them.

I buy lots of things I can't fix. Many things are mass produced that are inexpensive and are not built to be repaired.

Items in this category are IC chips, digital watches, hard drives, PVC pipe, and soda cans.

Tech, pvc and soda cans are an easy fix, its called duct tape. Lab, I know how to fix my stuff, I completely reset my computer to run on linux while it had a virus. No need to get off topic, I was just saying.

Hear Hear, but most things I buy, I can maintain.

Though as you get older, the logic will change to "I can either spend X hours making something, or I can take the money I've already earned by working my bollocks off for X hours, and just buy it."

Extending the logic of "If you can't fix it don't buy it" to the extreme, why live if you have to visit a doctor when you're sick instead of "fixing yourself"?

I digress, the argument has been going on since the dawn of man - it just is alright!

That's the idea, given close tolerances for good fit but low friction, everything should click into place with the first stroke.

Also, this will probably not be built. I'm thinking more along the lines of small, small cartridges

I used duct tape, an old electric scooter I find in a trash pile, and my bike. Dont believe it? You dont have to. Its evidence in your face.

are you really going to hold 100psi with some duct taped broken pvc pipe
