Thats for sure... There's all this talk about firing specialized projectiles out big bore hybrids then barely anyone does it... I wanna see a video, damage, possibly some high speed footage if possible.
I shot a 3/8" AP dart at 1/2" steel plate with a small hybrid. The very tip made it through, but nothing else did. That was around 8x. I want a fridge compressor so I can try 15x.

LeMaudit's projectile is on the way to me as we speak, perhaps I can re-use the sabot for a penetration projectile in the future :D

If you can find it :) from what I gather a simple UHMWPE cup isn't too hard to machine...

I doubt it, due to its specialized tail shape.
I'll make you another one ;-)

I was on a "hope" mission1 on Instructables, when I happened across this.

Just thought I'd share, it's simple enough and certainly not new, but I'm glad to see something good come out of Instructables.

1 A hope mission is when I go through usually woeful sites looking for useful information.

Like scratching through a cesspit looking for dropped change.

I'm pretty sure I've seen this posted somewhere else on spudfiles. JSR, your search skills are needed.

As that valve would have rather low performance, I didn't think anyone would bother with it here. Thus I didn't bother doing a cursory search.

Today I cut off the ring on the QDV. I shot a 400 gram projectile at 8 bar, and it hurt me pretty bad. (as Tech expected :D)

Image

I put one some filler , as the welded spots left dimples in the surface. I will paint it in a while, but I want to put on a shoulder sling connection on first.

Baggie inside a monitor

In the smaller version, I had my grandkids over this afternoon. We had a dead CRT monitor to dispose of. After disassembly to salvage some parts, we recycled the glass. :D

The unexpected happened. We were launching rocks (gravel pebbles) backed by plastic shopping bags. The sabot followed the projectile close enough to get sucked completely inside the tube. It was retained by the metal screen inside and spread out.

Enjoy the photo.

Yes the poka dot pattern in the lower corner is part of the plastic bag.

@Labtec; Now you have an idea of what the 32 oz Gateraid shot was like. A 32 oz Gatoraid is about 1 Kg in weight. Nice job Labtec. Looks good.

Hey guys... Just a small question I wanted to ask .... So I was wondering if there was any way to build a pneumatic gun which could either match the performance and muzzle velocity of a hybrid gun? Also if it was possible to build a pneumatic which could beat the hybrid gun? Help would be appreciated....thnx guys!

Cheers

Due to the physics involved in a hybrid, air is too dense to provide velocities very much above the speed of sound.

With heavy dense projectiles air does fine as the heat of combustion is relatively short in duration.

With lighter projectiles, an air cannon won't match a hybrid.

It depends on what the construction of both is, and what mix the hybrid is running at as compared to the pressure the pneumatic is running at. But... if I were to have two identical builds, and run them as close to failure as I felt comfortable, the hybrid would best the pneumatic.

If you're trying to beat out a hybrid with a pneumatic, we may or may not be able to help. We'd need more information.

twice as heavy as my projectile
Must have hurt!
I was standing on a small transformer house when I fired it. It nearly knocked me off.

You have the advantage of weighing twice as much as me :D

Shooting at a CRT looks fun :)
I have very little trash lying around where I can shoot at. I don't think my parents would appreciate it if I shot a glass object in the garden...

I do have fun at camp when a scrawny guy plays the macho thing and wants me to pump it up. I go ahead and pump it up. Knocked one guy over just shooting a can of pop at 100 PSI.
