ITWOST, my summer project is finally posted. I won't be building anything shooty for the next eight months, owing to university, but I'll hopefully get some simulations written in between class work.

Trying my new ignition system, and the repaired barrel.

I thank DYI for making this look pathetic :D

Tested pengun today, turns out piston was too loose and it wouldn't pilot with the schrader alone. I took the core out and disconnected the pump after filling it and it will fire like that, but I don't like that. I heated the cylinder with a propane torch and the schrader slipped right out :) I'm worried the heating had an effect on the stainless steel chamber though. I quenched it and cleaned the epoxy off the inside of the chamber and the schrader and now I'm making a new piston.

ITWOST, tested a dart, designed for penatration, and found that with HPA It was quite happy going through 12" of ballistics gel, and my steel toolbox...

I wouldn't be too worried, i doubt you got it hot enough to weaken it permanently also the tube is proboly the last thing that will break when your using epoxy plugs

Sadly no.

I made an assumption (Doh!) that a foot of ballistics gel would stop the round.... i guess a heavy stainless steel dart (1/4" diameter) traveling at high speeds is hard to stop.... haha

Also, the 300-350psi (aprox.) fast valve, and a 4' barrel did not help slow it down either.... lol

Tank ping? What the heck is that :P I'll post it later, I'm at school.

Hmm...quieter in the shop this time...not tank ping, it's the initial hit on a can?

Tank ping is caused by a pressure wave within the reservoir of a pcp striking the end of the reservoir.

Check out Ted's Holdover on youtube...you'll hear it every time he shoots the EdGun. Might be a bit graphic...in the event that bothers you.

I'm pretty sure it's the can, because it sounds ok when I shoot it at anything else or dry fire it.
