Would it be helpful to glue on a circle of PVC from a cap or plug to double the thickness where the valve gets tapped?

Not really, you don't need too. I have done it a bunch of times and they all have been fine. But it you want too I bet you could.

I havent been around air cannon forums for a few years now and just stumbled back. I'm glad to see the three tutorials i wrote what seems like so many years back are still being used and helping people. I see that this one has had over 34,000 hits. Glad to know its still helping the noobs.

iv just done some test with a slow motion camera and found that sprinkeler valves shoot the same as ball valves

becuse it lets air out the top it reduces the speed a littel and the air has to go through the parts of a sprinkeler valv thats why peaple are always complayning about it making a honking noise becuse the air is vibrating on all the parts of the sprinkeler valve a ball valv if turned fast can let more air flow through it becuse there is nothing in the way of the air one thing that is faster than ball valves are electricaly operated butterfly valves the same used in the punkin chunkin championships im not saying ball valves are better im saying that sprinkeler valves are not the next step if you whant to see more about elecrical valves search on the web

would it be ok to remove the solenoid and drill right through that? From what I have read the rod is on the bottom, which is a good thing right?

I was looking at the store and would the orbits 1in jartop valves work. I was think they might not because the silinode hope is right in the middle of the top where you would screw in the top.[/quote]

Stupid question...

I heard from a few people that you need a compressor to use a sprinkler valve. They said you have to get a lot of pressure into the chamber fast. All I have is a bike pump. So.. do I need to buy a compressor? If so, what size? And normal prices for the US?

You can use a bike pump, you just need to pump relativly quickly. If you do get an air compressor a 2HP 115psi 21litre/5 Gallon air compressor is a good investment.

Will a 5 gallon hold up? How long, if you know, can it provide a steady stream of air?

I'm just about ready for a compressor. I am using a bike pymp right now, and I need to hit about 50 PSI every time. Get a nice arm workout...
