No, electromagnet would be better. You could just hold it over a bucket and turn it off. And besides, everyone knows that any home project can instantly double its' cool points if you add high-voltage. Doean't even have to have a purpose, just stick a dangerous amount of electricity in there somewhere and you can turn the dullest project to an exciting adventure!

The problem is that as the distance increases, the strength gets inversely weaker. So, if at 1inch it's creating 1lb of pull, then at 2inches it will give off 8ounces of pull, at 3 it will give off 4ounces of pull. Plus it will require electricity to run.
Don't get me wrong, that would be one heck of a sweet idea. Just turn it on before you shoot, then turn it off after and collect all your ammo. But then again, you could get some long pieces of like 1/8inche steel plate and make a backstop that would funnel it into some chamber with something to slow the BBs down. Maybe a thick piece of leather or rubber?

I use tissue boxes, they have stopped everything I've been shooting, if u have to u can just use multiple boxes and u should be able to reuse the bbs by just taking out all the tissues. Hope it helps

Trust me, that gets old real fast. I used to have this box with about 1ft of cardboard, magazines and finally a piece of wood in the back. Most stuff would get cought about half way though, but eventually you get a ton of stuff going all the way to the very back. Old rags or shirts or something is the way to go. The BBs don't penetrate, they just get cought in the first layer and push it further into the layers behind it, thus slowing it down to the point where it just stops.

I've used a plastic bucket, tilted up slightly, filled with bubble wrap, with a soda can or whatever in front of it. It's lasted through over 300,000 rounds, so it's pretty good.

a very very large amount of current well not really but those super magnets can drag a pinball ball from like 3.5 yards or more wich is alot more than you need for stoping bbs

Ah, but is the pinball moving at 1000 fps? The mass may be much lower, but the high velocity will mean that there will have to be more power to stop it's momentum.

I think he means more like a normal rifle. But, I guess if you made a BBMG out of nice thick steel, and hooked up a CO2 cylinder putting out about 800-1000PSI....

What I use is a cardboard storage box with a peice of foam, then a few layers of cork, then the box, and finally a sheet of metal on back. I cut a square on one of the sides, since the box is on its side. That allows for the pellets and bbs to drop down once they are stopped. Since I made it in a box, I use the area where the lide should be to place a target.

I was shooting a experimental bb gun at my mates place one day, he had an old sponge bed mattress lying around. It works like ballistics gel, anything shot with reasonable force will just get stuck in it. It was about 12cm thick and nothing went through it.

yes, alot of foam things work great.

one of my favorite backstops for airsoft is that brittle pink foam. when you shoot at it, a BB travelling at at 500 FPS goes right through, so use two peices, but i use mine for my AEG, and when i want my BB's back i just crush up the chunk of foam and all my bb's come back out.

for steel bb's, try two or three layers thick of the stuff.
