I found something interesting after I posted last night on my nightly (home remodeling sucks) trip to Lowes. There is a pressure rated hose called "fuel line." It comes in the same ID as air line, so 1/4 3/8 and 1/2, and it is naturally black with no lettering on it. It costs a few cents more per foot but you buy exactly what you need with some barbs and you have a air hose that you don't have to paint or tape up.
You should be able to find it next to the brass fittings in the plumbing dept. I would suppose Home Depot and Menards would sell similar products as would most plumbing stores or bigger hardware stores.
It's something to look into anyway.
