now to save the sabot will tying some kind of nylon rope to the cap then to the end of the barrel actually hold or would the string and/or JBweld break, the cannon isn't the most powerful just a ballvalve

If you are looking for something like that, you should make a good quality sabot instead of using bottle caps. As far as the string breaking, it all depends on the type of string you use.
You could tie a ribbon of some sort to the end of the sabot so that it is easy to find, instead of trying to tie it to the launcher.
A really good idea would be to use a shop rag (since it is red) for the sabot. It is cheap, easy to find, and easy to reuse.

Red is an un-natural color..it's easier to see in the grass than say, green.
Edit: Before I get flamed about the un-natural color thing, just think about it. The next time you are up town, look at the store's signs. Must of them will have one of three colors; yellow, orange, or red.
