Oh yeah I see what you mean.

With Vinnie Jones around the block I doubt you would want to get much higher then that anyway

Ragnarok wrote:Now, I know I've mentioned HEAL far too much, but last week, I bought a dB meter to find out exactly how loud the ~11 bar pressure that remains at the muzzle actually is. I'm expecting at least 100, probably closer to 120 (at 1 metre parallel to the muzzle).

That should be interesting, because as far as I know, no one has yet put numbers on how loud spudguns actually are.
Don't worry, some people on here go on and on about lesser projects, something like HEAL grants you bragging rights :)

With regards to testing methods, have a look here - it would be interesting to see how the shot compares to this data, anything better than a suppressed 0.22 rifle is impressive in my opinion.

ok silent c:b ratio is not going to work.
i think ill just make it and see how loud it turns out to be.
if some one has some tips for me to keep the noise down, i'd like to hear them.
if it turns out its not quiet enough, ill just make a supressor.

ps: i dont mind the threadjacking, you cant stay on topic forever right? :D
@ ragnarok i agree with jsr, you earned the bragging rights.

If you let us know what calibre you're planning, the sort of pressures you want to work with and the maximum dimensions you'd be happy with, it would be easier for people to help you.

i suggest using a small chamber and a long barrel if you want a quiet launcher but i think there would be performance advantages f you used a supressor to quieten down your launcher instead of making it quiet in the first place.

i want to shoot bbs, so barrel will be 6mm.
pressure will be around 100psi.
i dont want the launcher to be larger then 1m long and 20cm wide.
the valve will probably be a ball valve.
the chamber will be copper.
my only problem now is finding a good barrel.
as i still havent found one
recently i bought some tubing that seemed to have a inner diameter of 6mm, but it turned out to be 5mm :(

it shouldn't be too loud at all at that pressure unless you have a ridiculous cb ratio (massive chamber:short barrel)

i had a massive chamber for my barrel on my first launcher becuase i plan to use longer barrels in the future and maybe bigger ones and it is super loud, then i added a surpressor to the end of my barrel and i is very noticibly quieter...

and one more thing, i am also planning a 6mm 'sniper' but i will be using a QEV (which will be loud), higher pressure (200psi+) however i will use a silencer to hopefully make it quieter.

For BBs at 100 psi you can easily use a blowgun as a valve, much more handy than a ball valve and it will still give good power. With a reasonably sized chamber it will be quieter than say a spring air rifle.

I'll see what I get. The meter I've got isn't close to being anywhere near that sophisticated, but I think I can get some decent data.

While I'm at it, is anyone else finding the forum is regularly acting up? I keep getting pages about MYSQL database errors. In fact, as I type this, I'm waiting for it to clear up.
