I know I am bringing up a dead topic, but these are great little guns.
I had 2 brothers and their kids over about two weeks ago and we made 10 of these babies. It is chilly out here in Idaho this time of year, but we spent 2 hours with the kids outside just running around having fun. We went through 2 full bags of marshmallows.
Through some not-so-serious thought and some experimentation...
We could shoot them fairly accurately to 30-50 feet. Then, either the wind would take over or we had been running too much (no air). Yes, they leave welts, especially on softer facial skin. We played around with barrel lengths and found that a 24" total barrel length worked best. We tried 120" barrels to be more accurate (duh) but much more cumbersome to tote around. I ended up using one of the midgets to act as my bipod legs on the end.
The design in the picture works great because as the marshmallow travels through the 1/2" sch40 pvc, the fittings cut into the marshmallow just enough to make it the perfect diameter and provide a better seal and thus provide higher pressure, thus higher muzzle velocity. Same principle as with a spud gun, just in a different manner. Also, mixing different schedules of 1/2" pvc can increase the gun's performance. ie. Use smaller gauge up to the barrel then finish with sch40 in the final barrel. Also, shooting 2-3 marshmallows at a time can increase distance and accuracy.

Man I love these things. I just built a pneumatic one. I can go through about 5 bags in one war.

Big bump.. But mine with a 24 inch long barrel with mini marshmallow it shot 100 feet blowing in it. with a 14 inch barrel shooting a marble it went 30.

another bump

This Easter weekend I got out my shooting chrony while the kids were running around with their marshmallow guns. I could clock a marshmallow at just over 105 fps... not too bad for lung power; besides, they leave a welt at that speed.

Now I have to make more... the kids broke all but one of them.
