Crazy emo chick on my IP is a new one.

There is no solid proof anymore than you could tell who threw a rock in a crowd but you can guess in the direction it came and it happened that Shumanman had used that IP.

Still, I know while I was in college I could use perhaps five different computers in a day... and there were several hundred possible ones to use. Oh and I also use my local libraries (three of) which all have a bunch of internet access points.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't anyone else that had accessed spudfiles from at least one of the IP's I've used.

I dont know, somehow this whole sotry doesn't check out, I don't really know but theres definatley something odd going on here.

Un-ban Schmanman? Then maybe we can see if he does anything like this again...I don't think he would do a thing like this. Judging on his earlier posts, he seemed like a pretty nice guy. The evidence regarding the IP address was not very convincing, because many people use the same computers sharing the same IP addresses in school. I can believe he is not lying because stuff like this goes on in my school all the time. My friend got his facebook password stolen by some at our school and they screwed up his account. This could have easily happened to anyone on here. Think about that before we take out the big orange "ban stick" and kick long time members off the forums. I hope PCguy sees this thread and validates Dippys IP address tomorrow.

The IP matching (which is an entire school district BTW) was just the start of it.

Actually, no you won't be. No one can access SpudFiles from your entire school district anymore.

Lets get into the other evidence here. I'll lay out the facts...

I own SpudFiles. SpudFiles costs money and time, a lot of my time actually. I don't think anyone realizes the volume of emails and PM's I get per day from members, soon to be members, and other organizations. Regardless, in order to afford keeping the site running and maintained, I run ads. I also promote BCARMS, which is the SpudFiles official store. Naturally BCPneumatics and myself have a deal worked out where he helps support SpudFiles through profits generated by BCARMS, and I advertise BCARMS. Simple business, I am sure most of you guys have figured this out by now... it's called a sponsor and SpudFiles wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for BCPneumatics help.

Now think of being BCPneumatics, naturally if his store is a SpudFiles sponsor, I can't allow other spud stores to advertise for free on SpudFiles, which is why there is the rule about promoting other spud shops/sites on SpudFiles. If you go on any major forum that has at least 1 sponsor, things will work like this. It's a great means of keeping the site alive and free for members.

Now some people don't like that they can't advertise on SpudFiles. Some people don't like it at all. If you look at Schmanman's profile, he promotes spudshot.com which has a spud forum, and a spud shop. Both of which I have had to remove multiple times from multiple members signatures for advertising. I have had members become VERY angry with me for removing the spudshot link in their signature, and they put it back. I removed it again, as it should be. Again, very mad people.

I started to receive these emails mentioned in my "Thanks Guys" thread nearly 3 weeks ago or so.... long before your emo friend was even a thought. As soon as I emailed "Matt" back a link to this thread, all hell broke loose on the forum. So it's very obvious that whoever has been emailing me this stuff has been at it for some time, it was just never on the forums before.

If you read back to the original emails, it says that I am a corporate sellout and that it isn't about the spuds anymore. Somehow I really think that someone who is angry with me about the whole spudshot store/forum thing would call me a corporate sellout.

I mean cmon, am I really a sellout for having a sponsor? Some of you guys seem to think I make a boatload of cash off SpudFiles, when in fact I don't. Sure I know how much some of you guys *think* I should be making with SpudFiles but guess what, it's not that easy. Advertising to a spudgun website is no easy task, it's a very specific topic.

So if you do the math, the possibility of all of this relating to schmanman is very likely. Somehow schmanman's account was used to post some of this crap on SpudFiles, which makes it even more likely. Unless someone somehow "guessed" his password.

Schmanman I know you have been a long time member and I really hope this isn't true, however all of the facts point against you man. Right now I have no choice unless someone knows something else...

I wouldn't say most commited, but sure he is well known and respected over here. You could say the same about what has the world come to suspecting Michael Jackson of kiddy fiddling when he is so famous and released so many good records.

The thing is, the postee had some connection to schmanman, if schmanman had read the topic he would realise what is going on and contacted PCGUY whenever he could. It was friends of schmanman's fault, not ours. If he has a problem he can deal to this chick or whatever.

And this is why I made spudfiles a restricted site on our schools computer so that the only way to access it is by an adminstrative account so this kind of thing wouldn't happen, cuase i know some people who would do something like this and owe me a little revenge.

I hope schmanman is innocent, I really liked the guy, and this doesn't seem like him (I sound like the mother defending her son accused of murder). Then again anyone is capable of doing almost anything even when its completly out of character. The evidence may be damning, but this is a case of innocent until proven guilty, but its best to let things cool down before we attack an innocent man, or maybe a guilty one. Whatever it is, best not let it get under our skin.

And to tell you the truth PCGUY, I always kind of liked the advertisment thing going on here, especially since it was for a members company; it made the site seem friendlier. Anyways, it always sucks people act like this (and its seems we've had a few lately), but like I said...

We must be doing something right if people have an unjustified problem with us.

How could someone proof themselves innocent if the Ip's are damming evidence? Keep in mind I know basically nothing of internet tech. Thats why I ask. It seems that's the thing against him.

About the advertisements being removed, unless something was verbally communicated in anger you can't say for certain if thats proof of doing this. It can be speculated, but no one can read minds, you don't know for sure 100%.

The only open to member's problem with mods that I've seen was with Pimpmann22 about taking this dirt bike crap over to Theopia.

I thought when a member got banned, there profile was deleted? Whats to stop banned members from just making up info to rejoin and start all over? If the Ip numbers match a district, how do you isolate just that member?

If any of these questions can't be answered due to security reasons, I fully understand.

The IP is somewhat like the number of a phone you can call from except instead of a phone it's a computer.

Schmanman used that computer to post here a few times in the past and the troll that came through here the other day was also using that computer.


PCGUY's blocked the school district the computer was from so every computer there is blocked.

However there is pretty much nothing that can stop someone from making a new account and accessing spudfiles from elsewhere.

The fact is you don't know who it really is that has logged in under a name so the only action that can be taken is to (a) block the IP or (b) ban the username from logging in.

What stops him from using a proxy and making a new account and going on this kind of rampage again?

I't may not have been Schmanman but his username has been banned as well as the whole school district the computer was from.

If Schmanman makes another account and logs in from outside that area there is nothing to stop that. How could you after all? No one can guarantee who is behind a username.

I’ve bean trying to figure out how you could afford to keep this running, your obviously not turning much of a profit if any at all. Even if you were making a profit, I don’t think it would even cover labor fees for all the hours spent moderating the site.
To finish this train of thought I must say thanks for running a great sight, and not charging me to use it.


It seams a shame to ban Schmanman, but if he’s truly innocent then he won’t mind waiting offline till it’s all sorted out and he’s name is cleared.
