clucking bell, even in slow motion it looks fast! It looks like the aftermath of a bad curry night :D
Locals got a bit miffed that DU rounds were creating doubled headed fish or something though.
Are you sure it's DU, most proposals I've seen use tungsten as a penetrator.

Interestingly, have a look at this video - it seems that the projectile was magnetically accelerated from a static position.

OMG that little white "truck" would have to be careful, it could be mistaken as a spare tyre! :P You know how much those tyres cost- about half of my monthly earnings, times 10 :D

well, this is what the US Navy intends to mount it on in the future:

Smaller railguns could eventually be mounted on armoured vehicles, but as to a Imageuake style man-portable launcher, it might take a while...

Indeed - what's a bigger waste of time, marvelling at the wonders of experimental high velocity weaponry, or judging how others chose to spend their own time?

Yup, the railgun testing at Dundrennan, Scotland lobs DU rounds about into the Solway Firth

Opposition politicians claim the UK Government has kept the public in the dark over plans for the weapon.

When haven't the powers that be do anything but..

The article doesn't mention the DU shells fired by the railgun, the concerns seem to be about DU ammunition fired by conventional powder burners.

Even older concerns - no mention of railguns.

Meh, was right the first time, article was bit misleading and encouraged a link between the two.

Typical media scaremongering as usual. It's probably more about the fact that Scottish territory is being used for the tests than actual safety concerns.
