Anyway, unless you can find a big sprinkler valve real cheap, I wouldn't bother. Building a piston would cost less and it might even perform better. But if you do find a cheap valve like I did, it's very easy to modify and make an awesome launcher.

I have never seen NSF-PW pipe with grey text before.All pipe with grey text pipe i have seen has been DWV.

Nah... Some 4" pipe that I used has grey text and displays a pressure rating. 8)

yes but what if i doesnt preform well. Its realiability vs. flow. I would go for a sprinkler valve. simply due to fool proof operation.

I have a slight problem, maybe it's OCD, but I can't build anything unless it will come out absolutely perfect the way I want it to. I start twitching if I have to improvise (no duct tape, no epoxy repairs, none of that) I've put off so many projects because I know I can't do them without improvising in some way. That's why I'll never build a piston until I have a lathe. I will not use a random piece of plastic wrapped in tape for a piston. That would freak me out.
So until I sh*t $600 out my ass, I'll stick to premade things like sprinkler valves. I don't even care if they don't perform as well. They have never failed me either.

^ thank you... i feel the same way. I mean how are you supposed to get even close to the performance of something from a factory with scraps from your garage? I really want a lathe too

Well piston valves have much more flow compared to a sprinkler valve, and they also open at the same speed and time, depending on your homemade piston, pilot, etc.
If anyone wants, they can get a 3" sprinkler valve, but i have already tried to bargin with him and he never accepted my offer of 40 dollars.

But also pistons are much cheaper to make.
I am making a 4" piston BST vavle because i couldnt afford to get this. I really cant wait until its finished.

You dont NEED a lathe do build a piston valve.
Endcaps of the pipe one size down should fit right in.
You can make pistons out of almost everything, deodorant cans with duct tape around or melt hot glue.
Dont waste money on a 2" sprinkler, build a piston valve and use a 1" sprinkler to pilot.

But then you're screwed if it doesn't work.
Sprinkler valves are almost guaranteed to work straight away.
Sprinkler Valves = Easy use.
Piston Valves = A whole lot of tinkering.

You should keep your eyes open for the 1 1/2" Asco dust collector valves that were posted on the forums a few weeks ago....These valves are specifically designed for pneumatic applications and have much higher flow coefficients than modded sprinkler valves...These valves are very commonly used in manufacturing and available on internet stores and can sometimes be found on Ebay very cheap.
