I assume the door was 1/2 or 3/4 inch plywood. The fact that the wire bent like it did may indicate the dart was a little too long. Try cutting it down to about where the bend is or make the tail longer. Also grind a little point on the biz end on that thing...see what happens.

You could also make darts out of wire nuts. Just get some music wire or nails and epoxy them through the wire nut ....they work great.....
