That was my first thought, however if you do the math (In your head, no calculator needed) it tells me that it *must* be attributed to your modifying.
Murphy's law at work or some such.
What you really need to establish is if said noise is hurting your engine. It may just be a "turn the radio up" kind of thing. You would expect that from an Aussie

Heh, it does seem likely that it's not coincidence but you can't rule out that possibility.

Some Google searching on "power steering noise" yielded some interesting results. Frequently it's a belt slipping a bit, or air in the power steering lines. I'll check (and maybe lube, to test the theory) the belt and bleed the lines tomorrow.

Turning up the radio is an option... Bigger exhaust is a better option

OK, I've removed the power steering from a Ford Ranger pickup and a Toyota Corolla - both of which are A LOT lighter than a Lexus ES300. My car weighs about 3,400 pounds with a full tank of gas, my (slightly upgraded) stereo and my (175-pound) ass in it. Muscling 3400 pounds through a corner at a decent rate of speed with no power steering? Not only sounds like an arm workout but probably dangerous

Not having power steering makes it a tone of fun...

I bet it is coincidence you check the standard things like the fluid and the belt?

What kind of power steering is it...rack and pinion or something else...

It would make sense the rmps would increase since it take more power for engine to run the hydraulics...

Does it make the same noise at different speeds?

Wantwaitwait... You're going to lube the belt to cure a slipping problem? That's only going to make it worse and possibly degrade the belt. Find a good spray belt dressing instead.

Checked the fluids last night, I'll check the belt(s) today.

Yep, it's rack and pinion on McPhearson strut independent suspension.

Noise seems about the same at all speeds.

Yes, but only to make sure that's the problem. If you put just a little bit of lubricant on the belt and it stops making the noise, then you've found the problem. And if that's the case, the belt needs to be adjusted/tensioned or replaced.

Ah, good news! I bled the air from the power steering system today and the noise seems to have gone away.

I just went out and drifted a couple of corners in the rain to make sure - so far so good. I'll report back if I have farther problems. Thanks for your time, guys

Ha, I was laughing my ass off at that video, agreeing with it. Then a huge spider appeared on my desk, no joke. Almost shat myself as I had been working under my desk earlier today, and I hate spiders.

It had a nice trip out the window though.

Last time I was told to harden up was when there were 38 beers in the fridge and only me and my friend to drink them all
