It IS cast. Read the title, read the OP, read several posts in the thread. It's cast red brass.

Yes they will be rough inside. You could take a 1" drill bit, lock the pipe in a pipe vise (not a regular vise; pipe vises have V shaped jaws) and bore it out.

mcmastercarr page 27 has yellow brass fully threaded and hex nipples
