.003" is fairly easy, ok? I'v done it a few times before, so I know from experience. Keep in mind that this is a fairly old lathe that my dad got on E-bay, which is fairly well used. (and has roughly .015" of slop in cross-feed, and who knows how much in the feed...)
.001" isn't acheivable on my lathe per se, but if I cheat and use fine-grit sandpaper to finish the peice, it probably is.
And O-rings on a typical barrel sealing valve arn't required in my (funding) limited experience.
Not that they wouldn't help, but they arn't really needed.
