The outer shell of paintballs is the same material as the outer shell of most prescription drugs, you know the caps try looking up what is used to make those caps.

If you dont want to burn your hands, use gloves or something to hold it.

Might sound crazy and will definitely not work but...
How about mixing paint, cooking oil AND PVC glue into the mould. I don't think it'll work but this is what i'm thinking if it did work. The pvc glue would hold the liquid together and you won't need to freeze it... except wait for a long time for it to dry. That way you don't have to use an outer shell.
That or I should used powdered chalk with some liquidized agent. Hmm and how am I suppose to have a consistant shell with candle wax because i'll end up having egg shape paintballs lol.
