I don't think there's a specific exemption in the law for foam stress ball launching.

The law COULD allow it, the firearms law in this country is only supposed to cover things designed as weapons, which is why paintball is exempt - it's considered unlikely to injure and wasn't designed as a weapon - but unless I deliberately drive for one of the wordings already engrained into law, I don't think the results are going to be favourable.

Usually the exemptions (excepting that of paintball) revolve around safety of some kind - line throwing, signalling, net launching.

Id say you call up the customs people and ask if such an item would be stopped. If it would be, Obtain all the liscences and get them to give it a special Waiving. They can do that in the US....

Semi-auto t-shirt launcher for toddlers? :P

Tack fun children's toy to anything and you get passage! How do you think carbide guns got out there?? JK, but I really think that you are a little overconcerned. Do you need any sort of liscencing or papers to ship a paintball gun? I don't think so. All this really is, is a paintball grenade launcher. Sounds perfectly plausible and reasonable. That said, why not just ship it with Solar's company (albeit concept) logo on it? It seems to me that this is one of those things where if you ask it isn't ok, but if you don't nobody will give a second thought.

What? Getting a straight answer out of a government department and bureaucracy?
Are you mad? :tongue3:

On a more serious note, any answer over the phone would have no guarantee of the same result applying at the customs check in.
And like ammosmoke says, I have the gut feeling that the audacity of doing it straight out will make it into a Bavarian fire drill.
Obtain all the licences and get them to give it a special Waiving.
Although it may sound that simple, if they say no, like JSR says, I'd have a heck of a time getting my grubby mitts on the required licences, and even then, that would further complicate things. In simple terms, a requirement for any licence would make the plan impossible.

But like I said, paintball guns are exempt from licensing, even overwriting section 5 law, which even a firearms certificate can't do here.
Buying and importing a paintball gun from the states needs no more license than I need to own one in this country.

In fact, it's considerably easier to own a paintball gun than an air rifle or airsoft replica in this country. Air rifles have to be bought in person, airsoft needs a registration - neither is the case for paintball.

@ammosmoke: I'd prefer to avoid the word "grenade" to be honest.
Tacking together the words "40mm" and "Grenade" will get attention I would rather I didn't (particularly considering the Eclipse's appearance), even if Solar's launcher is completely incapable of loading, firing or triggering them.

However, the words "shotgun", or possibly more favourably "scatter gun" should be on the better side of trouble.

Has the thought crossed your mind Rag that maybe, just maybe, Solar is USING you to see if in fact one CAN import said device to the U.K. and is not worried about you evaluation at all? Surely all the testing that has to be done has been done....

Who cares if that is the truth, Rag still gets one helluva nice cannon for free. Not to mention expensive.

Well i think Rag might care if the po-po go through him like a bag of salts but like you said who cares, not me thats for sure, that's why i didn't mention it. :?

I don't think Rag will be importing this illegally, hence the topic.

Apart from importing it in pieces, i would ring up customs and get an answer whether a semi-auto net launcher would be allowed in

(although this may not guarantee it getting in 100 % it may make you feel less nervous about customs confiscating it and not giving it back)

I had considered that there was a certain element of that, but I don't believe it's more than a happy side effect for him.
If that was his primary aim, he would get far more efficent results talking directly to a UK paintball supplier over me.

And I don't think his market is going to be so pressed that he's dependent on the UK paintball market for everything to work out. I'm sure there are some people over here who'll want one, but I don't imagine Solar will be that short on US buyers.

However, if that's your concern - there is a way to check.
Surely all the testing that has to be done has been done....
Ah, misunderstanding, what I didn't add was a section from a later PM:
Solar wrote:Regarding testing... basic function, improvements, technical data such as flow improvements, ballistics.... the works. I am very busy working on new things at the same time trying to make this launcher a showpiece for some demonstrations.
In other words, it's not about simple testing, it's about my ideas for further developments and improvement.
CasinoVanart wrote:Well i think Rag might care if the po-po go through him like a bag of salts.
Under UK law, even in the case that they should stop it, it's never been in my possession, which means they couldn't touch me with any charges.
This would apply even if I tried importing a Section 5 (like a full auto, pistol or rocket launcher - all illegal even with a licence).

Obviously, I don't want that to happen, and will specifically try to avoid it, but if I thought I would have to import it illegally, I wouldn't be having this topic, because it would be dishonest to pretend to Solar that it was possible.
This whole topic is about me finding/checking legal ways to do it.
ammosmoke wrote:Who says they have to know it is 40mm?
If not told the bore, they'll look at it and think "It's about that sort of size".

Might call for it specifically being marked as 39mm. :P

Quite a stretch for attempting to justify owning a repeater :D
